So bridal shower season came in with a bang, and a massive cold front too. Spring didn’t feel quite so spring-y this past Sunday, that’s for sure.
But nonetheless, Sunday was the oh so spring-y and garden themed bridal shower of my dear friend Meleny. Her sisters hosted the shower, and us bridesmaids helped run the show. And if I do say so myself, we all did an amazing job. It was one of those events that kind of goes off without a hitch. It was the kind of shower that if I was a guest, I would have had a genuinely great time. And as a bridesmaid, I genuinely had a great time too, lucky to be a part of such a great group of women that get along so famously. It was a happy day for a happy occasion. The decorations were beautiful, the games super fun, and the flow nice and smooth.
Some of the garden themed decorations included pastel colored watering can centerpieces with potted flowers, pastel coloured tins with flowers, tissue paper pom poms in pops of spring colours, and white lace umbrellas.
The guest favours were pastel purple garden lanterns with heart shaped chocolates inside. I made the tags for the guest favours - stamped, hole punched, and ribboned 'em up (more on that lil’ diy in another post).
The shower games we played included:
Table Games
Guess the Tea – an assortment of different flavoured teas which the guests had to smell in order to guess the flavor.
Purse Quest – the tried and tested standard shower game that you hate to love and love to hate, having the guests collect an assorted and random list of items from their purses. Rather than giving them a list however, we announced the items (30 total) one by one, giving a slight pause in between each. It made the game more fast paced and exciting and high adrenaline-like and the ladies got really into it. It’s a shower classic and slightly cliché but it’s a hoot!
Create the Bouquet – this game was our spin on the toilet paper bride phenomenon. Rather than creating a wedding dress out of toilet paper, we had each table create a bouquet for the bride out of such supplies as toilet paper, tissue paper, pipe cleaners, streamers, and stickers. This was a lot of fun and everyone got really into it. We then had a model/representative from each table and the bride chose the winning bouquet which she will also use for her rehearsal. Love love love.
Centerpiece Game – a lovely little story was told about the bride and getting ready for her wedding day, using the words right and left many times. Each time one of those words was used, that’s the direction you had to pass an item around the table (we used those little wedding cake bubble blowers). At the end, the last person holding the item was the winner of the centerpiece!
Individual Games
Door Prize – guessing the $ amount of a garden themed basket, whoever closest to the actual retail price wins the basket.
Name that Flower – this game was my baby, and involved matching the illustration of the flower to the name of the flower.
Can You Name It? – a list of clues where the answers all start with “can”.
Price is Right – another shower fave, volunteers “come on down” to play the price is right and guess the amount on a variety of household cleaning items (having a great emcee for this game is a must – and ours was awesome so it went awesomely).
And that, as they say, is that! Next up - the bachelorette party ;)
