At the bridal shower on Sunday, the games I was in charge of were the door games, where guests played/guessed right after they had walked into the venue and before they found their seats. One of these included a door prize of garden related items (assembled and packaged by the sisters of the bride). Guests had to guess the $ amount that the garden basket cost. Closest guess to the actual retail price, won the basket and its contents.
The second game was my baby, and called "Name That Flower". Basically it was a mix and match game, where guests had to match the picture of the flower to the name of the flower. I tried to make it not too easy and not too hard. As people were filtering in and taking a stab at it, I feared the worst and that it was far too hard. I had some people hanging around the table for 15-20 minutes trying to figure it out (for only 10 flower combinations)! Also, multiple comments that the game was hard – though mostly from older Croatian women who complained that I had not also included the Croatian names of the flowers. In the end, there were actually 4 winners for the game, so I guess it wasn’t that hard after all!
For the board itself, I picked me up some good ol’ fashioned bristol board at the dollar store and some purple kiddy paint and fashioned the game board. For the images I used mostly Pierre-Joseph Redouté floral illustrations. They are actually scientific illustrations but in my eyes also beautiful pieces of art.
Here is the correct match up of flower pictures to flower names (just in case you were wondering):
A - Rhododendron
B - Lilac
C - Tulip
D - Magnolia
E - Dahlia
F - Peony
G - Hibiscus
H - Carnation
I - Hydrangea
J - Rose
