"Just Call Me Martha" ~ garden lantern {bridal shower} favor tags

One of my responsibilities (though self proclaimed) for my friend Meleny’s bridal shower this past weekend, was to make the tags for the garden lantern favours. The pastel purple garden lanterns were chosen based on the shower being a garden theme as well as purple being the bride’s colour of choice.

So when it came time to decide on what to do for the tags for these favours, I got all crafty Ms. Crafterson, put my Martha mojo on, and offered to man (or woman) this task. I used to love to do all things crafty and scrapbook and art related, and I did a few for my own bridal shower and wedding. But I haven’t tapped into that side for awhile, so I was an eager beaver when presented with this perfect opportunity to exude that side of myself.

Noting that it was Earth Day on Sunday, I re-used and recycled from my own “Afternoon Tea/Yvonne in Wonderland/Garden Party” themed bridal shower, from which I had a lovely flower stamp that I had used to adorn my invitation envelopes as well as the packaging of game prizes/gifts. I realized the same stamp would translate wonderfully to this garden themed shower and could be used for the tags and to help with the immediate mental association for guests that the favours were garden lanterns.

I then headed out to Michaels to fetch me up some thick card stock, pretty purple ribbon, and purple ink for the stamp.  Another repeat use item was my decorative hole puncher which I had used on my shower invitations. In this instance, I applied a different pattern but the same effect of punching out all 4 corners of the tag for a little extra flair. I seemed to have forgotten how painful this process was the first time around at my own shower, because I literally had sore hands and arm muscles and shoulders from the sheer force required for the act of punching. My palms were also slightly bruised. But ‘tis okay, just call me Martha!

The final touch was to put a label on the back that was in some way a little ‘thank you’ word play to her guests. I also wanted to incorporate a cute little garden or spring inspired saying or quote. In the end I decided on this lil ditty – “Yesterday the twig was brown and bare, today the glint of green is there!” Perfectamundo I must say. Along with that, a “Thank you for coming to Meleny’s Bridal Shower ~ April 22, 2012”.

I pre-tied them all so we could just slip the tags on the handles of the garden lanterns, making it much easier the day-of for setting up. We also added a small bag of heart-shaped chocolates inside the lanterns for a lil' extra somethin’ somethin’.

Done and done. Lovely loveliness.

Here are some images of the final product:
