"Just Being Audrey"

I came across this darling children’s book and loved it so much, especially the whimsically romantic illustrations, that I had to share.

The book tells the story of Audrey Hepburn’s life, as an inspiration to young girls to live their lives with her same grace, timeless elegance, and kindness. It prompted me to do some more digging and I learned a lot about Audrey’s life that I never knew before – such as her involvement with UNICEF and her philanthropic endeavours. Despite the fact that "Roman Holiday" and "Sabrina" and "Breakfast at Tiffany’s" are some of my favorite films, I didn’t know much about Audrey Hepburn herself. So in my little search I became enamored with photos and history surrounding her life, and how she really did exude grace, timeless elegance, and kindness. It sort of makes me sad that women today don’t quite exude these qualities, in style but also in life. There is so much trashity trash in our magazines and media, that it makes me almost wish we were back in the days where it was “trashy” to be seen out in public without one’s little white gloves. Nowadays you’re lucky not to get a commando crotch shot from some chickita stumbling drunk out of a cab. I’m not saying that I’ve always been the picture of elegance myself, and the times they have a changed, but Audrey certainly is a good reminder and role model to have of what a real woman should be. And certainly a better role model than some of what’s out there today (Snooki anyone?).

So when in doubt, whether of my style or of my behaviour and actions in life, I will attempt to do a lil' mental check and Just Be Audrey.
