reading spurts...

I love to read, always have. Most of my summers as a young lass were spent devouring library reading lists in my grandparent's backyard, in the air conditionned house when it got too hot and humid, at the cottage on the dock, on the beach on vacation, in my bed till the late hours of the night/early hours of the morning. Never got enough. Put one down, picked another back up.

But as you get older, unfortunately there is less time for such leisurely book devouring escapism. For one, those long summer days are spent behind a computer desk reading emails rather than literary prose. But nonetheless, I do still make time to hold a book in my hands (none of this e-reader bullshit by the by).

Nowadays though it just comes in spurts. I go on reading "tangents" if you will. There will be some months that I read 10 books back to back and then some months where I barely even read a magazine or blog, let alone a several hundred page-r. And recently there's been a serious lack of any reading spurts.

I'm also a book hoarder. I buy books for my reading to-do and stack them in piles until I get into one of those spurts, leaving me with a reserve for when the mood strikes. Well that pile is growing, and a spurt has not come.

Time to self-inflict.
