Month 7 | In Review

Wow I've actually almost approached reality with these posts. Leo just hit 8 months yesterday, so I am on the ball. On it. Ballin'.

And as one can see from the above photo, the current reality involves a lot of movement. The kid is mobile. He's not crawling (yet) but he does not stop moving. He is constantly off the grid (our term for escaping his play mat confinement). A roll here and a wiggle there and a bum in the air like he just don't care.

In other Month 7 developments:

  • We finally started solids after the go ahead from the doc. Nowadays every doctor says something different I feel like, and every baby is different too I guess, but we waited until the 6 month mark. Could we have started earlier? Probably. But I think 6 months was good for him. And we haven't looked back since. He's an awesome eater and has pretty much been okay with anything we have given him. Except potatoes. He loathed potatoes. Detested and despised with a vengeance. It's the only time in his entire existence that he's barfed. And, for shame, we laughed. It was funny. So as these things go, the poor child will probably have some psychological scarring from that one. Yay us.
  • I am still breastfeeding in addition to the solids, as milk is still supposed to be the first source of nutrition at his age. And if I got it, I'm going to use it. It is cost effective too, after all. Formula is hella expensive.
  • He sticks his tongue out when he laughs. Adorbs, yes.
  • He's a nuzzler. A snuggle muffin. A cuddle bunny. He loves to hug us and burrow into our chests. Ugh, it makes me the happiest.
  • He got his two front teeth. For Christmas. Like the song.
  • There's this hand movement he does where he moves his wrist around like he's conducting a symphony. Our little conductor Leo.
  • A lot more babbling is happening. All the googoogaga's of baby talk.
  • He wiggles his arms and legs in a sort of swimming motion while on his stomach. It's like he's trying to take off and get moving but just hasn't figured it out yet. He can push up on his arms and push up on his legs but the two haven't come together for him. Scarily (and wonderfully), he is not far off.
  • When we put him down for bed (on his tummy because he's a tummy sleeper) and before he falls asleep, he does this back and forth head movement until he gets comfortable, turning his head from side to side and alternating from thumb to thumb. I'm surprised he hasn't chafed his face from the rubbing motion. Then he wiggles himself right into the same corner of his crib, bum in the air, in a fetal position. At which point he is down for the count. Watching this on the baby monitor is better than any form of entertainment ever. Trust me on this one.
  • We've grown accustomed to calling him bumbum as a sort of nickname. I'm starting to become worried he will think this is his actual factual moniker.
The love overfloweth for Mister Leo (bumbum).
