In addition to my Mom and Dad being in Croatia at the same time as us, so too were my Grandfather and my Aunt and Uncle and cousins. They were spending their time on the coast in Supetar, on the island of Brac. So Rob and I decided to do a day trip there and stay for a night, as it’s a rather rare occasion for so much of the fam jam to be in Croatia at the same time. So we drove down to Split, about a 3 hour drive, which is where you can catch the ferry to the island of Brac.
Supetar is a lovely little area, although perhaps not that little, it was teeming enough with tourists, probably due to its easy access and proximity to the hubbub of Split. Rob would say that he much prefers his small village of Jakisnica and its quiet simple pleasures, but it’s nice to see other islands and places in Croatia as well, and to spend some time with the ol’ fam jam. We also got a chance to see friends from Split there, which was an added plus.
One funny little thing is that when we got there, my Dad met us at the ferry and took us to where everyone was stationed on the beach with their towels and everything. But everyone was out eating lunch when we got there, so Rob and I plopped down and sunbathed. My little cousin Anton comes back from lunch and we say hi and he just stares at us blankly and entirely confused, as in one of these things is not like the other – clearly he had no clue we were coming and our appearance was totally out of his Croatian vacation context and reality. He just looks at us and says “You’re Yvonne. You’re Rob”. As if he had to say it out loud, eyes wide with disbelief, to actually believe it to be true. It was high-larious, and endearing. He did eventually come to terms with our presence and all was well.
