Vegas-by-Day
This trip to Vegas was my third time there. Probably my last for anytime in the near or foreseeable future. Definitely probably the last as a gal in her 20s. The next time I go, I’ll be a possible old fart.
The first time was with my girlfriends (same group as this trip) and we were young, wild, crazy, and free to party hearty. We were fresh little perky 22 year olds. I was still in school and working an internship during the summer. Therefore, pretty much had zero in the funds department. But it was worth every one of those minimal of pennies that I barely had.
Note to anyone who is young and relatively unattached financially: GO TO VEGAS WITH YOUR FRIENDS. Just do it. And do it as many times as possible (within reason). Or go on trips in general with your friends – go everywhere and anywhere you can. Because while you think you’re bogged down money-wise as a penniless student merely working a part time job, you get more and more bogged down money-wise as you get older (or rather you get more responsible with that money and alas you grow up). Things like car payments, weddings, buying homes, mortgages, and the like, eat up the adventure and fun that you can comparatively so recklessly have in your early adulthood.
So DO IT, I say, DO IT.
As the theme phrase for our weekend went… YOLO –> You Only Live Once. And ‘tis truer than true, though I apologize for using the phrase, it annoys me so, yet I love it for its annoyingness at the same time.
This time in Vegas, we really YOLO-ed the daytime experiences. In fact, I would say I had more fun (or more maximization of fun) in the Vegas-by-day aspect. This probably had a large part to do with the fact that it was crazy hot there (desert in August after all) and we spent most of the daytime enjoying that hotness whilst staying cool in the pool. We have always stayed at the Flamingo hotel, due to its central location and affordability, but also, because they have an AWESOME pool. It’s very tropical-esque and you feel like you are on a real vacay. There’s also a great and more youthful crowd guaranteeing that our mellow wasn’t harshed, so to speak.
This time what really set the experience apart from other Vegas times, was renting a day bed at the pool. Normally, it’s a mission to find a lounge chair, nevermind several together for all of us to be side by side. Basically you would have to be there at the practical crack of dawn (by Vegas standards anyway) when the pool opens. Not happening. Also normally, the daybeds and/or cabanas are way expensive and not really worth it unless you have the money to blow. What we discovered this time around is that if you show up to the pool mid day and there’s still some empty day beds, they will then be half price just to get them sold. So we ended up renting a daybed and getting two free cocktails included, all for a nice tidy sum. High fives all around! It was totally worth it to have all us gals in one locale to chat and have fun and it also made for easy accessibility to the water, without having to burn our poor feet on the scalding concrete (it really was scalding by the way, we actually got blister burns on the bottoms of our feet from the heat).
Though the day bed was ballin’ and all, the most epic of Vegas-by-day experiences would have to be that of the Rehab pool party at the Hard Rock Hotel, which deserves it’s own YOLO post.
So more on that coming up – stay tuned!
OH AND BY THE BY... we met Mr. Van Winkle aka Vanilla Ice. No big.
